One day when Visual Studio froze during startup I had an idea - what is the slowest possible startup time for Visual Studio? In this video, I think we have found a possible answer to this by installing Visual Studio to a rewritable DVD disc and the slowest laptop I own.

This reminds me of when MSDOS software on magazine floppy discs would often only run from the floppy itself but you could designate a HDD directory as a floppy drive and run it from there. Useful when you needed the floppy drive for something else. Not foolproof but it often worked fine.
